Spirotiger

The Spirotiger in new to New Zealand.  It is one of the first devices to focus on respiratory endurance training.  More specifically it provides endurance training for the diaphram and can result in improved lung volume.

Research is showing improvements for individuals with a chronic lung function problem (COPD patient) and for the sports person.  The COPD patient may benefit by getting additional degrees of freedom in daily living or profiting from a decrease in adverse respiratory sensations during daily exertions eg. increasing the threshold at which an asthmatic event occurs.

Research into the benefits for athletes is growing.  One study with a group of fit young cyclists showed a 4.7 percent improvement in performance after 20 training sessions.  Another study with a group of healthy, active subjects showed a decrease in blood lactate concentrations when cycling at the same initial workloads.

Training sessions can begin at only 5 minutes and build up to 30 minutes, 3 to 5 times per week.
