Physical Work Performance Evaluation (PWPE)

This is an evaluation that can provide you with an accurate and objective measure of a person’s function.  It is particularly useful for workers who have suffered an injury that may affect their ability to perform their job safely.  You will discover what a person’s capacity is, for overall level of work (ie light/medium/heavy); their specific abilities for dynamic strength tasks (lifting/carrying), postural tolerances (sitting/kneeling) and mobility (walking/climbing).  It can also measure endurance for an 8 hour work day.

The PWPE can be very useful in helping to identify rehabilitation needs and to measure progress.  It can provide injured workers with safe activity levels and therefore increased confidence in their ability to carry out those tasks they are physically capable of, allowing a safe, productive return to work.

A Task Specific PWPE is a very useful method with which to assess a person’s ability to perform their actual job tasks.  They provide an objective and accurate measure of an appropriate starting point for return to work programs and can be utilized to highlight to those providing medical certificates of a person’s ability to do specific tasks rather than just generic ‘light duties’ thus providing meaningful options for the injured worker.  It can also be utilized to assess fitness for work prior to receiving a full clearance.  Task specific evaluations are also useful for measuring tasks around the home environment.

We have extensive experience with the PWPE having carried out evaluations for nearly ten years.  It is the only functional capacity evaluation with reliability and validity research published in a peer reviewed journal.
